Sr. Systems Administrator

Icon Media Direct is seeking a Sr. Systems Administrator for our Information Technology team. Senior system administrators manage a team of system administrators as well as other employees of the IT department. They are responsible for designing, planning, putting into place, and having the highest level of performance as an expert in the system administration for computers and their complex operating systems. With this, senior system administrator research’s and select upgrades, software and other necessities for our company’s computer systems. The ideal candidate understands that the goal of an effective Sr. System Administrator is to help employees with systems, applications and IT issues so they can execute their best work for our valued clients. The Sr. Systems Administrator will help oversee complex technical deployment projects. The position requires the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment and balance multiple projects in order to complete them successfully and within expected timelines. This role is integral to our success, working with all departments within the organization.

Job Duties Include, but not limited to:

  • Management and Administration of Windows Servers, routers, switches, firewalls, SAN, phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches
  • Perform operational tasks such as monitoring, proactive maintenance and problem resolution to provide a stable network and systems environment
  • Maintain IT infrastructure, including servers, SAN, network equipment (switches, routers, etc.), printers/copiers, input devices, phone systems, security system, video monitoring system and other technical equipment
  • Ensure the integrity of file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems are reliable and secure
  • Responsible for Backup and Recovery of servers and configurations
  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments and Internet systems
  • Ability to handle both software and hardware upgrades, including developing, testing, evaluating and installing enhancements
  • Ensure system performance through regular monitoring and analysis of systems, performance tuning, and troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks, and operating/system management systems
  • Secure system by managing access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing back-ups; maintaining documentation
  • Create and maintain departmental standard operating procedures and technical documentation
  • Respond to after-hour alerts and phone calls, as needed
  • Make recommendations for future upgrades
  • Perform desktop support duties, set up and support computers running Microsoft Office and other corporate software
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for hardware replacements of additions.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies based on business needs.
  • Previous experience working in a collaborative, team environment
  • Familiarity with JIRA ticket tracking
  • Train and support staff on use of hardware, software and procedures


  • Must be adept in working in a fast paced, ever changing environment with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong communication and customer service skills for daily hands-on internal customer support
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Able to lift at least 50 (fifty) pounds
  • Works well under pressure with a positive, can-do outlook

Required Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) a plus
  • 5+ years of hands-on Windows Server experience (design, build and escalation support)
  • 3-5 years of Citrix XenServer or VMWare Virtual Environments
  • Windows Server 2008 – 2016 experience
  • IT Security best practices experience
  • Must have experience with Anti-Virus/Malware software
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity and network printing issues
  • Experience producing formal documentation
  • Experience supporting VOIP / PBX Systems
  • SQL Server DBA experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience setting up and maintaining an AWS production environment, utilizing auto-scaling, preferred, but not required
